a new age?!

Yesterday I watched the inaguration of Barak Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America!

I witnessed the day when a black man stood there as the president of the most powerful country on earth in our modern times....

I saw black old ladies crying; perhaps remembering the way they were treated only 40-50 years from now, I saw people celebrating in Kenya for the Son of Africa who was now on the top of the world...

Yet, these happy and emotional sights of Americans celebrating their new president left me with an awkward feeling; a confused mixture of hope and fear, the hope that things might realy change, that we might really be approaching a new age of toleranse, multiculturalism, peace and respect..and the fear of disappointment....that he might fail...that he might not be what he looks, that he might not be for real...

I think we are all aware of the fact that the task of Obama is not an easy one . This morning he has to deal with a world in a major economic crisis, a war in the Middle East and another two in Afghanistan and Iraq, a starving Africa and a warming Globe ...perhaps his most difficult task will be changing the image of the USA who has been widely hated around the Globe for its agressive actions within the war against terorr that Bush has declared against whoever stood in his way and had the guts to disagree...

But no matter how hard it is, Obama will have to deal with it, he has to fulfill his responsibilities and his promises not only towards the people of America but also towards others around the Globe who are filled with hope as they see the face of a black smart guy becoming the new face of America...

I only wish Gandi was here to see this...and I hope that I will remember this day sometime in the future as the day where the world started to change....
